When I think of a Classic B&B, the McConnell Inn is what comes to mind. It is a scrumptious Victorian with lovely gardens and even lovlier hosts. Staying in a historic building adds so much splendor to a trip. The high ceilings, the woodwork, the wallpaper, and little nooks are all so delightful. There is a piano room with some board games, a sitting room, a dining area, and wrap around veranda/porch all of which we partook. Did I mention breakfast? It is that 2nd B that I miss in a lot of B&Bs. It started with coffee, real cream, and juice. Our first day it was smoothies, sausage, and homemade banana berry waffles…yes…waffles! Our next day was open faced ham and egg creations. Each day it was a joy. The location was ideal for our journey. It was a mere block away from the marina for us to get on our boat. A restaurant bar another 1/2 block away which was a great place to watch the big game but far enough away that we had peace and quiet. Downtown was 2 blocks away and a nice boutique saunter plus a place to get quick supplies. We lucked upon the weekend of the Wisconsin State Chili Cookoff which was in the local park. It was Midwest wholesomeness at its best. Our favorite didn’t win but they said they are coming back next year for another try. We will definitely be back and we recommend you give the McConnell Inn a try.
